This is exquisitely normal. This is so queer\, it’s inside out.  This is a show for the family\, with nudity and sexual themes. This is rigorous beauty. This is a formation. \nThis Is a Formation is the latest dance performance project in jumatatu m. poe and Jermone Donte Beacham’s Let ‘im Move You series\, a collection of performance and visual works centered around the artists’ explorations with the J-Sette form. Formation brings together 7 Black dancers\, a DJ\, and a lighting designer as performers for the work. Audiences travel within the performance space with relative freedom\, sharing the same spaces as performers. Live captured video design elements will focus on close-up capture of the performers for display on hanging panels throughout the space\, referencing both hyper-surveillance of Black people’s bodies\, and pop-star scale megalomania.

SUMMARY:Let 'im Move You: Intervention Performance - CAC
DESCRIPTION:Part of jumatatu m. poe and Jermone Donte Beacham’s decade-long collaborative research into J-Sette performance\, Intervention activates histories of predominantly and/or historically Black neighborhoods\, as it uses rhythm and precision as vehicles into subversion and satisfaction.  \nOn sidewalks and in alleyways\, jumatatu and Donte draw on J-Sette’s call-and-response structure to reveal the powerfully singular expression that can emerge within this highly regimented dance. J-Sette originated among drill teams and majorette lines of historically Black southern universities and continues to grab the attention of half-time stadium crowds—while having found a second life\, and new political meanings\, in the Black gay club scene. Performance routes are announced only hours before their intervention\, freeing the performers to agitate the boundaries of propriety and belonging\, and confront the historic imaginations and limitations of these spaces. Intervention is a performance project in jumatatu m. poe and Jermone Donte Beacham’s Let ‘im Move You series. \n \n

FNMC creates intersectional movement investigations that witness Black Femme bodies\, spaces\, and modes of being. Redefining “femme” as modalities of radical softness\, Maiolatesi is interested in exploring “softness” as an integral part of Black liberation. She is also interested in sweat. Carving through space with the body; hair whipping back and forth. The subtle vibration of vocal cords and echo of ass claps. Climax. Denim and headwraps. Exploring the overlap between integrity\, ancestral/indigenous life ways\, true love\, and accountability\, guiya (they) activate a Matao worldview to make offerings towards inafa’maolek (Balance and harmony with all of life). Weaving through languages of altar-making\, movement\, film\, music\, and prayer\, guiya (they) generate moments of encounter with self\, each other\, spirit\, and the natural world. Yo’ña (their) work enacts spaces where multiple worlds\, ways of knowing\, being\, and doing speak to each other to unearth embodied pathways towards collective liberation. \nDakota Camacho acredita na criatividade como um registro de interação com o reino do espírito. He has two album:\, “Variável Eloquente” (2015) – praised debut album produced by Clemente Magalhães and Maycon Ananias – and “Incendeia” (2018) – produced by Alê Siqueira\, with the participation of Maria Gadu. He has four singles released\, as well. Caio Prado is also part of the queer trio Não Recomendados\, alongside Diego Moraes and Daniel Chaudon. The group is named after Caio’s prominent composition which has become a hymn against homophobia. Elza Soares recently recorded a version of the song on the album Planeta Fome (2019) \nCaio Prado é cantor e compositor carioca. Tem dois discos\, “Variável Eloquente” (2015) – elogiado disco de estreia produzido por Clemente Magalhães e Maycon Ananias – e “Incendeia” (2018) – produzido por Alê Siqueira e com participação de Maria Gadu -\, e quatro singles lançados.
