Rosy Simas (Seneca, Heron Clan) is a transdisciplinary artist. For Simas, the culture, history, and identity stored in her body is the foundation of her work. She unites cultural concepts and images with scientific and philosophical theories to create work that is literal, abstract, and metaphoric. Her work weaves themes of personal and collective identity with family, matriarchy, sovereignty, equality, and healing. Simas is a recipient of fellowships from Dance/USA, McKnight Foundation, Guggenheim Creative Arts, First Peoples Fund, Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, and a Joyce Award from The Joyce Foundation. Simas is co-editor of the Movement Research Performance Journal, Sovereign Movements, issue 52/53.
